2013 in Review

In education we usually mark time by the academic year, but as we embark on the new (calendar) year, it’s time to reminisce about the wonderful 2013 we have had at Grandview Preparatory School.  This year was filled with thrills, triumphs, and traditions.  Read on for a recap of 2013 at GPS!

Last January, we showed our school spirit during homecoming week

… and honored our softball team for their state championship during the 2012 season.

At the end of February, varsity girls basketball made it to the FHSAA State Final Four…

and our boys varsity basketball team won their first-ever state championship!

They received their (awesome) championship rings later in the year.

We enjoyed a fun Dance Concert in March.

And in April, we celebrated 15 years of Grandview and sent off the legendary Mr. Will into retirement (even though he still pops up on campus from time to time…)

May is always a busy month.  It began with our spring musicalGrease…

…and great post-season performance by the varsity softball team.

Our Glee Club won the highest honors at the Universal Studios Music USA Festival:  a First Place Superior Rating and Elementary Grand Champions!

We graduated an amazing group of seniors

… and our Kindergartners, 5th graders, and 8th graders all moved forward in their academic pursuits. (Those little blue caps and gowns are irresistible!)

Recent Grandview grad Lucy Smith filmed and compiled a new Grandview video to show the world what it’s like being a member of the Grandview family.

Grandview alum David Adams made his major league debut for the New York Yankees.

Leo the Lion traveled near and far with Grandview friends and family during the summer of 2013.  Here he is with Matvey and Stepan in Moscow, Russia! Check out Leo’s many destinations here.

In August, we started off the 2013 – 2014 school year with another fun Color Wars event.

Senior Julia Cournoyer compiled great Grandview moments into an amazing video for all to enjoy.

We began the Cloud9World Character-Building Program

… and we introduced Prideville in the lower school hallway.

Grandview Dance Academy performed during halftime at the Dolphins vs. Ravens with Gloria Gaynor!

Grandview Association of Parents hosted a Family Science Night for all– and it was a blast!

Our varsity volleyball team made it to regionals…

… and our varsity swimmers made some waves at the FHSAA State Finals.

Our middle and upper school students hosted another fun Halloween party for the lower school children.

In November and December, our community showed great generosity through school activities and initiatives.  On November 15, the adults in the community came together at the Grandview Gala to celebrate Grandview and to help the school reach our $100,000 fundraising goal for a challenge gift given by Mr. Sandy Satullo II.

Our community’s generosity was also apparent in the activities during the holiday season.  We made blankets for Project Linus

… hosted our annual party, Celebration of Life, for special needs students at a nearby elementary school…

…and packed 130 care packages for soldiers stationed overseas this winter.

And finally, we celebrated the season with a winter concert filled with wonderful performances by our talented students. Watch our favorite part here.

It has truly been an amazing year at Grandview! Thanks to all parents, students, teachers, staff, and friends who have supported Grandview this year with your participation, your presence, and your donations.
